LOVE the title of this article! It can and does get fried. I can't stress enough how important this is for ALL of us to learn and understand. Your nervous system feels almost a separate entity that needs it's own comfort and care irregardless of what our rational brain thinks. Great topic and article. Thanks, Moorea! Awesome way to start today.
Thanks for the important reminders. 🙏 Some days I question my truth or am annoyed by my sensitivities. But, it's who I am at my core. And thank you so much for sharing my Substack as well. ☺️
When I was in kindergarten my teacher spoke to my parents because I wouldn’t finger paint, and she was trying to force me to. My parents, in the 70s mind you, told her they didn’t care and to stop bothering me with it.
I still don’t like certain textures on my hands. (I know lots of folks have waay more stuff than I).
Whoa Henny, I’d never thought of it that way. This seems like a good example of if someone’s not hurting anyone, their preferences shouldn’t bother you.
I would like to add cooking and gardening to grounding activities. At this point, I feel like most things that take you way from the computer or phone are good ideas. It does feel like internet based moments heighten or feed into the nervous system monster.
And I second a gratitude practice and getting into nature (or simply appreciating those little flashes of nature if you live in the city) ~ Thanks Moorea and Judy! 🙏😍
It’s so true that this society is not structured for people who are neurodivergent or highly sensitive. We shouldn’t be driven by success because success can look different for everyone, thus it’s impossible to measure. An individual who’s lost the will to live, yet chooses to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other every day is(IMO) doing something far more difficult than someone who created a power-point presentation that results in a promotion—yet it’s the latter that would be viewed by society as a success story. The only way to create change is to keep talking about it. Thank you for posting this, Moorea!
Not easy - I kind of lost my 'tribe' during the scamdemic. I went to church at the time, and had 2 real friends (or so I thought), and a few more distant friends. I stopped going to church, as they are all injected and very fearful of unjabbed people. With my 2 former best friends, the relationship is wobbly but being established again, although I don't think I will ever be able to trust them like before. Thankfully I am on a wooded acre and always have been a tree person.
Going to keep these important steps to get back to myself again, thank you so much for sharing.
These are great tips. Another tip is to ask yourself at regular intervals, "What do I need?" Julie Bjelland, LMFT, www.juliebjelland.com, suggests we ask ourselves this every time we use the restroom. Another way I ground myself is by using the Happy Color App to color pictures.
I am very sensitive to temperature and so summer isn't particularly pleasant for me due to the humid, hot weather.

Thanks for your feedback, Shelby. My rational brain has a way of overriding my nervous system's needs. 😆

Sometimes I’m annoyed by my sensitivities as well. Judy is a wealth of wisdom.
This was wonderful Moorea.

Thanks for your comment, Lani. I second the cooking and gardening. And agreed re: screentime.

"The only way to create change is to keep talking about it." Love it!
Thank you for these comforting reminders.
Speaking my truth is the most grounding way I stay in my tenderness and strength.
And thank YOU for speaking your truth. Your writing is full of soul.

My experience was very similar, Ingrid. A wooded acre to myself sounds lovely now.
All great tips. But “Dr Williams cure all” “10 pints of lager & a meat vindaloo” is the best 😉😂😂 well it is Father’s Day in the uk 😂😂
LOL I'm gonna take your word on that one, Mark. 😆
